📐 Measurements :
- Width: 125 cm
- Height: 89 cm
- Depth: 60 cm
🌟 Technical and artistic description :
- Bombé structure : The sinuous body, with curved front and sides, embodies the aesthetics of the Louis XV style, evoking movement, sensuality and visual balance.
- Floral marquetry : Each panel is covered with meticulous marquetry in fine woods—rosewood, boxwood, and mahogany—forming floral motifs, urns, and garlands that appear to be painted with fire onto the wood. The execution is symmetrical, precise, and profoundly artistic.
- Gilt bronze inlays : The handles, corner pieces, brackets, and moldings are crafted in fire-gilt bronze , with rocaille, acanthus, and scroll details that accentuate the design's elegance. Each piece is a work of goldsmithing in itself.
- Green marble countertop : The top is made of veined green marble with a beveled finish that softens its edges and adds a touch of grandeur. The marble, with its natural veining, provides visual freshness and a perfect contrast to the warmth of the wood.
- Hidden drawers : Three spacious drawers are seamlessly integrated into the curve of the front, with original locks and period hardware, offering functionality without sacrificing aesthetics.
🕰️ Origin and time period :
France, circa 1880. Attributable to Parisian workshops that revived the Rococo style with highly precise cabinetmaking techniques.
🔍 State of conservation :
Excellent. Minimal and respectful restoration. The varnish retains its deep shine, the bronzes are intact, and the marble is free of cracks.
🎭 Presence and symbolism :
This bombé is not simply a piece of furniture: it is a functional sculpture , a statement of taste, and a reliquary of history. Its presence transforms any space into a setting of nobility, art, and memory.
